So, if you haven’t heard already (ie. you’re living under an abnormally large meteorite) Sting is performing the half-time show at the NBA All-Star game in Toronto this year. Needless to say – Twitter went wild. Like almost as good as Kanye/Wiz beef wild.
Some people were just straight savage:
Just when I thought I couldn’t be less interested in going to a basketball game, they add a Sting concert to it.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your halftime entertainment, STING!!” pic.twitter.com/6XMuijBJcT

First Coldplay and now Sting. What’s next? Michael Bublé at Wrestle Mania? pic.twitter.com/jRZLyxS8NT

Oh, so you’re trying to tell me you don’t hum along to “Roxanne” when you’re watching a game? Just me?
Because when you think #NBA you think Sting.

Sting is set to perform at #NBAAllStarTO half-time and people are like https://t.co/cTKZJJU0U3 pic.twitter.com/pGdOeJdmWM

Anddd some were just straight up confused – like this guy:
Sting ? Wtf
— oh man (@Im_yurLeader) January 28, 2016
And this may be a bit dramatic:
Sting? I mean, I know a lot of singers died recently, but, geez …
— Jeff Blair (@SNJeffBlair) January 28, 2016
Even our former mayor chimed in:
Really @Toronto2016? Sting? What were your backup options, Cher and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra? How about some TORONTO talent!
— Rob Ford (@TorontoRobFord) January 28, 2016
lololol #real:
You see “Sting” trending and you think he’s dead. I hate twitter.
— BWD (@theonlyadult) January 28, 2016
Some were just trying to find answers:
@NBA @Raptors Why is Sting playing halftime of All-Star Game in T.O.? Drake would’ve been way more appropriate choice. What happened?
— elgordodeloxo (@heyitsgordo) January 28, 2016
And along the way, some really valid points were made:
Canadians have 6 of the top 10 songs on the Billboard charts right now – and the NBA hires Sting to perform halftime. Brutal.
— Jim Lang (@JimLangSports) January 28, 2016
But – not everyone was upset at this… interesting decision.
Sting is headlining the All Star Game. That makes me happy
