One of the most highly anticipated movies of 2018 so far and let me tell you, the hype is completely warranted!

I read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle in elementary school and even though that was a while ago, the story still stuck with me enough that I was insanely excited to see this movie. It’s crazy to think that the book was published in 1962 and still the themes are still so relevant in 2018.

Meg Murry (Storm Reid) struggles with life at school – she’s a top student but doesn’t really fit in and has been acting out since the disappearance of her father (Chris Pine). Meg and her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) set out to find their dad with the help of their 3 celestial guides, Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling). As they tesser through time they are faced with many challenges including confronting a powerful evil. Kudos to the amazing cast they chose for this movie, they were spot on and absolutely nailed their roles. My favourite part of the story was Meg’s journey. Still to this day her story is important, it tells us to look deep within, embrace our flaws, and believe in ourselves.

This movie is perfectly timed and sees the rise of so many empowered and strong women from screenwriter Jennifer Lee, to director Ava DuVernay and the powerful female cast stemming from Oprah’s lead. Watching this film made me proud to be a female in today’s world and I’m glad that it gives us more than just a few hours of amazing entertainment. It provides a reason for the world to shift and see…
