After being home schooled his whole life, 5th grade, Auggie is about to go to public school for the first time. School is nerve-wrecking for everyone, but Auggie is extra nervous because of his Mandibulofacial Dysostosis- which causes him to have facial deformities.
At first I was hoping that this story would be different- that kids would have sympathy for Auggie and cut him a break… nope. Kids were still mean to him– especially one boy. With the help of two special friends and his family, Auggie stayed true to himself and never changed or backed down to stop the bullies. He was just himself and everyone saw the strength and fell in love with him.
One of the most underrated and yet inspiring characters, was Auggie’s sister, Via, who finds herself lost in her brothers shadow. When her BFF stops talking to her for no reason, she feels like she has no one to turn to. Feeling alone, she jumps into the drama club to keep herself busy and ends up finding herself along the way– and a cute boy too!
