As you might be able to tell, I’m having a love/hate relationship with Instagram right now. It’s great for a lot of reasons but there’s just way too much negativity that comes with the app. Not only are there the negative feelings we bring upon ourselves with confidence, etc. there are also just some mean people out there.
Whether or not we understand the reasoning behind it, there are social media users who thrive on putting others down, making them feel bad, and just generally trying to bother them. It’s cyberbullying and it’s not cool.
Using social media as a platform for any sort of bullying is so unacceptable and it’s time to put a stop to it. Everyone is entitled to post what they want and nobody is entitled to make them feel bad about it. If someone is comfortable and confident enough to post a picture, that’s great for them – it’s nobody’s place to determine if it’s “Instagram worthy”.
Acting like you’re better than other Instagram users doesn’t actually mean you’re better.
It really just means you’re kinda sh*tty. And you need a hobby. There are so many positive ways to spend your time and leaving rude comments on people’s posts is NOT one of them.
You don’t have to like everyone, or like everything someone does and that’s okay, but it’s not okay to publicly display your negative feedback for the world to see. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
If someone is trying to mess with you online the best thing you can do is limit your reaction. Block the user and don’t let what they say get to you. If it’s more serious than a slightly inappropriate or touchy comment, report them and let Instagram deal with it. There is no reason to sit there and let people say hurtful things, they don’t need to see what you post and you don’t need to know what they think about you.
